On July 8, 1947, the public information office at Roswell Army Air Field in New Mexico issued a press release announcing that the military had recovered a crashed "flying disc" on a nearby ranch. The next day, the story changed. It had been a weather balloon. In 1994 the Air Force changed it again: a classified balloon project called Mogul, designed to listen for Soviet nuclear tests. And in 1997, in a report titled The Roswell Report: Case Closed, the Air Force explained the persistent stories of small bodies at the crash. Witnesses, it suggested, had confused their memories with crash test dummies dropped from high altitude balloons. [1]
The dummy drops did not begin until the 1950s. Years after Roswell. [1]
The man who wrote the original 1947 press release was a young lieutenant named Walter Haut. He spent most of his life telling interviewers he had never seen anything. In 2002 he signed a sealed affidavit, to be opened after his death. He died in 2005. The affidavit said he had seen the craft. And the bodies. [2]
On July 26, 2023, a former Air Force intelligence officer named David Grusch testified under oath before a subcommittee of the United States House of Representatives. He said the government had been running a crash retrieval program for decades. A congressman asked him whether the government had recovered the remains of the pilots. He answered that biologics had been recovered, and that they were, in his words, non-human. [3]
The Pentagon's investigative office for anomalous phenomena published a report the following March. It said it had found no evidence that any government program had ever recovered extraterrestrial technology. [4]
Dr. Imani Cole knew both statements were true. She knew because the bodies were not extraterrestrial.
