Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 13, 2026
What we collect: almost nothing. Who is watching: officially, nobody. Unofficially: also nobody. We checked under the desk.
The plain, legally binding version follows. It is boring on purpose.
This Privacy Policy explains how the operator of The Obsidian Registry ("we") collects, uses, and protects information when you use The Obsidian Registry website (the "Service").
Information we collect
- Information you give us. If you join our email list or send a message, we collect your email address and anything you choose to include, such as your name and message.
- Purchase information. When payments are enabled, a third-party payment processor will handle payment details. We will receive confirmation of the purchase, your email, and order details, but not your full card number.
- Technical information. Our hosting provider (Netlify) may automatically log basic technical data such as IP address, browser type, and pages requested, for security and reliability.
- Local storage. We store a few small flags in your browser: that you passed the age notice, that you have seen the entry sequence this session, and whether you have found hidden areas of the site. They never leave your device. We do not use advertising cookies.
- Clearance progress. Files you open, discoveries, and your codename are stored only in your browser to power your clearance dossier. They are never sent to us.
- Anonymous analytics. If we enable analytics, we use a privacy-focused, cookieless service that counts visits and actions in aggregate without identifying you.
- Interactive pages. The Exposure page, Numbers Station, Cipher Workbench, and Terminal run entirely in your browser. Nothing you type or that they display is sent to us or stored.
How we use it
To send the updates you asked for, respond to messages, provide purchased content, prevent fraud and abuse, and comply with law. We do not sell or rent your personal information.
Service providers
We use trusted providers to run the Service, including our web host (Netlify) and, when enabled, an email provider and a payment processor. They may process your information only to provide services to us.
Retention
We keep personal information only as long as needed for the purposes above or as required by law. You can unsubscribe from emails at any time.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or port your personal information, and to object to or restrict certain processing. California residents have rights under the CCPA/CPRA, including the right to know and delete and the right not to be discriminated against for exercising them. EU/UK residents have rights under the GDPR. To make a request, use the contact page and choose "Privacy request."
Children
The Service is not intended for anyone under 18, and we do not knowingly collect information from children.
Security
We use reasonable safeguards, but no method of transmission or storage is completely secure.
International transfers
Your information may be processed in the United States or other countries where our providers operate.
Hidden clauses
This policy has none. The Terms of Service have one, at the very end, for people who read that far.
Changes
We will post updates here and change the "Last updated" date.
