Terms of Service
Last updated: October 13, 2026
The rules of the house, written by people who own suits. The fun rules are over here. These are the ones a judge would read.
The plain, legally binding version follows. It is boring on purpose.
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of The Obsidian Registry website and any content, files, or services offered through it (the "Service"), operated by the operator of The Obsidian Registry ("we," "us"). By using the Service you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
1. Eligibility
You must be at least 18 years old, or the age of majority where you live, to use the Service.
2. Nature of the content
The Service provides works of fiction built on cited historical records, as described in our Disclaimer, which forms part of these Terms. You acknowledge that purchases provide access to entertainment content only.
3. Accounts and purchases
Some content may require purchase. Prices are shown in U.S. dollars before applicable taxes. When paid access is available, payments will be processed by a third-party payment processor, and we will not store your full payment card details. We may change prices at any time; changes do not affect completed purchases. Access to purchased content is granted as a personal license, described below.
4. License
We grant you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to access and read purchased or free content for your own non-commercial use. You may not copy, redistribute, resell, publicly perform, record, adapt, scrape, upload to datasets or AI training sets, or create derivative works from the content without our written permission. Brief quotations for review or commentary with attribution are permitted.
5. Acceptable use
You agree not to circumvent any access control or paywall, share login or access credentials, interfere with the Service, use automated tools to access content, or use the Service for any unlawful purpose.
5a. Third-party listings
The Service links to products sold by third parties. Any purchase you make from a third party is solely between you and that seller and is governed by its terms, not ours. We are not responsible for third-party products, prices, shipping, returns, or websites. See the Disclaimer.
6. Intellectual property
All original text, artwork, design, and branding on the Service are owned by us or our licensors and protected by copyright and trademark law. Cited third-party works remain the property of their owners.
7. Refunds
Refunds are governed by our Refund Policy.
8. Disclaimer of warranties
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, and non-infringement, to the fullest extent permitted by law.
9. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss arising from your use of the Service. Our total liability for any claim will not exceed the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim.
10. Indemnity
You agree to indemnify and hold us harmless from claims arising from your breach of these Terms or misuse of the Service.
11. Termination
We may suspend or end your access if you violate these Terms.
12. Changes
We may update these Terms. The "Last updated" date shows the latest version. Continued use after changes means you accept them.
13. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Utah, United States, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules. Disputes will be resolved in the courts of that jurisdiction, unless applicable law requires otherwise.
14. Contact
Questions about these Terms: contact page.
15. The fine print
Almost nobody reads this far. If you did, you are rarer than anything in the Archive, and the Archive has noticed. Three pages on this site end with a word that does not belong there: What This Is, Accessibility, and Copyright, in that order. Put the three words together and say them to the terminal (the >_ in the status bar). This section creates no obligations for you or for us. It is only for the ones who read.
